| Auckley is a pleasant village which lies approximately 5 miles from the town of Doncaster South Yorkshire, it is set in rural surroundings and there is a great sense of community spirit. In the 1800's the village is referred in historical records as 'Awkley', it's boundaries formed partly by Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.
THE GREY LADY OF AUCKLEY

Auckley has been home to a famous Grey Lady apparition who has made appearances at the rear of crowds, particularly at weddings and christenings for more than three hundred years. The story goes that she was the youngest daughter of a local chap who kept her as little more than a servant. She had little opportunity to meet men herself and so took solace in the happiness of others, and it soon became a custom at feast days to set a place for the Grey Lady and a special toast was made.
CHRISTMAS MARKET
The Christmas Street Market is organised by a small group of volunteers from the village, who started the market in 2005 raising funds for a local community project. The market was so successful that it was decided by members of the group to continue organising this event. Each year the market gets bigger and better and welcomes traders and visitors from Lancashire, Nottinghamshire, West & North Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The Christmas Market starts the festive season.

For anyone wishing to park there is street parking, please do not block anyone’s driveway. Please do not use the local public house as this is for pub customers only.

- Please be careful when crossing local roads they can be very busy during market times.
- Dress for the occasion with warm clothes as the temperature drops in the evening.
- Find out what’s on and where in Doncaster – Telephone 01302 734309 the Tourist Information Centre or call in. It’s the Blue Building on High Street Doncaster (near the Danum Hotel) The staff will be happy to tell you what else is on in Doncaster and the surrounding areas.
- Drink plenty of hot drinks to keep warm – get a true taste of Christmas with a cup of mulled wine,
- Food - enjoy fish and chips from Auckley Friery.
- Separated from friends or family? We suggest meeting at the large Christmas tree on the green. In the event of lost children or lost property please contact a nominated steward or police officer .
